I have a question:
Why must there be an eight day waiting period
before performing a bris? My neice had her son circumsized in the hospital
right asfter the birth. Her mother wants to have the religious ceremony
for the bris. Is it acceptable to go through with the ceremony?
About me: Paul Stolpen I am 59 years old; am active in my conservative
synagogue; but am still searching for sprituality. I find myself merely
going through ritual without the internal feeling of religious love.

Thanks for your question, Paul. Her mother is correct.
A bris is not a medical circumcision. A bris is
a covenental commandment, an entry point to a life of divine
service. A circumcized baby who hasn't had a bris requires one.
(In this case a drop of blood is taken.) Consult a qualified mohel for
details.
