I have a question:
Can you tell me why many / most of the jewish synagogues carry a name ending in "el", and what exactly is the significance of the letters/word el? Thank you, in advance, for taking the time to answer this question regarding a topic of curiousity to me.

The Hebrew word El means "God". Thus Beth-El means "House of God", Emmanu-El means "God with us", Yisrael means either "God strives" or "Strives with God"), etc.
